Since the introduction of their Pocket Chinese Almanac at MOCA in 2010, Joanna C. Lee and Ken Smith have become an integral part of our Lunar New Year celebrations, bringing a unique blend of cultural expertise and insightful foresight. Their annual predictions have turned into a staple for many who seek to navigate the year ahead with wisdom and understanding.

This year, we immerse ourselves in the Year of the Dragon, a symbol of power, strength, and prosperity in Chinese culture. Embark on a journey of discovery with Joanna and Ken as they unveil the practices and preventive measures suggested for a year imbued with the dynamic essence of the Dragon. These predictions are not mere conjectures; they are deeply rooted in centuries-old traditions and astrological studies, offering a unique perspective on the upcoming year. This event is an opportunity to connect with a rich cultural heritage, to understand how ancient wisdom can be applied in contemporary contexts, and to prepare ourselves for a year filled with the majestic energy of the Dragon.

The traditional almanac, known as Tong Sing in Cantonese and Huang Li in Mandarin, serves as a comprehensive repository of cultural wisdom. It covers a wide array of topics from household tips to medical remedies. Its yearly forecasts, which pinpoint favorable and unfavorable days for a multitude of activities, have cemented its crucial role in Chinese family life.
