In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Museum of Chinese in America continues to honor the remarkable contributions of Asian and Asian American women composers to the musical landscape. This time, MOCA is pleased to collaborate with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s to celebrate the legacy of Chen Yi.
Join us for an in-depth conversation between Chen Yi and MOCA’s curator, Herb Tam, as they explore her musical journey and legacy. This discussion will reflect on the evolution of her work, revisiting an interview she gave to AsianWeek 30 years ago. We are particularly interested in how her experiences have shaped her music, especially as she returns to New York City for a five-borough tour (see description below). The evening will conclude with a performance of Chen Yi’s compositions by St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble.
