本周我们重点介绍谢志伟（Alex Jay）最近捐赠的华裔美国人主题材料中的另一项文物：QRS 钢琴卷轴。这个特别的卷轴中收录了电影《花鼓歌》（1961 年）中的歌曲“我喜欢做女孩”，该电影由许多亚裔美国演员（如关南施和 Jack Soo）主演。这部电影改编自黎锦扬 1957 年的原著小说《花鼓歌》以及次年罗杰斯和汉默斯坦（ Rodgers and Hammerstein）制作的同名百老汇剧。许多人最熟悉的是由黄哲伦（David Henry Hwang）于 2002 年修订的最新版《花鼓歌》。
就媒体本身而言，钢琴卷轴被归类为机械播放设备。音乐信息被记录在纸卷上，纸卷上打有长块的孔来代表钢琴的不同击键/音符。在播放时，卷轴被送入气动钢琴演奏器，当块滚动经过称为跟踪杆的黄铜杆时，空气穿过并触发执行器，该执行器将弹奏相应的钢琴键。将钢琴乐谱表示为视觉块的方式在数字世界中以 MIDI 或乐器数字接口的形式进行，其中音符不是物理孔，而是在程序中以数字块的形式直观地表示，该程序指示乐器以特定的方式演奏。
